Music Monday

I’ve got some new tunes on my playlist! Also, I noticed I forgot some songs on my last Music Monday that I meant to add. So, here’s what I’ve been listening to lately.

If you click on any of the links they’ll take you to the song’s YouTube in a new window.

Alaska – Maggie Rogers (you may remember Maggie Rogers and this song from this video with Pharrell last year! She is killing it.)

Believer – Imagine Dragons

Cleopatra – The Lumineers

Cocoon – Milky Chance

Cruel World – Phantogram

Good Grief – Bastille

Green Light – Lorde

Help Me Out – The Wild Feathers

High Enough – K.Flay

Hoping – X Ambassadors (I also really love the message behind this song)

Love Is Mystical – Cold War Kids

Ophelia – The Lumineers (this was SO GOOD LIVE)

Picturing Love – July Talk

Reverend – Kings Of Leon

Silvertongue – Young The Giant

Who’s With Me – USS

Push-ups and a Playlist

Big surprise, I haven’t gotten any better at push-ups since not attempting them in about a year.

push up

I didn’t expect to suddenly be good at them or anything, but I thought maybe I wouldn’t be so horrible. Nope. I had my second session with Gillian last night and this was pretty obvious when I tried to do my first push-up on a small step (so my body was inclined, which is apparently easier) and my arms buckled and I nearly fell on my face. I  did get slightly better, bit definitely nothing impressive. So it would appear this would still be me:

I drew this a while ago. If you like you should check out my cartoon stories.

Luckily, Gillian doesn’t judge like the musclemen at the gym. And to be fair I have a pretty heavy chest region. I would say it’s probably the heaviest part of my body. Whenever I gain weight that’s the first place it goes! So we will just say that is the reason for my lack of upper body strength. The good news is there is a lot of room for improvement, so hopefully I can step it up. I will keep trying.

Last night’s upper body party with Gillian wasn’t quite as hardcore as the lower body stuff on Monday (lower body is always harder in general I find). Lots of push-ups and push-up-type activities and resistance and core work going on. It was still tough, and my arms are very sore, especially when I attempt to lift them over my head. And my legs are still sore, so just hurting everywhere over here.

But the good kind of hurt. The kind of hurt that means it’s working.

Anyway, I mentioned that I have still been running once or twice a week, and I have mentioned many, many times that a good playlist is very important to my running. And also that I try to save all the songs on my running playlist to only listen to while I am actually running, that way I am excited to run because I am excited to listen to those songs. It works in theory. I am constantly on the lookout for new songs to listen to, so I thought someone might be interested in my playlist. If you dig my jams the rest of my playlists are conveniently located on my playlists page.

Clicking on any of the songs will take you to the YouTube video:

Can’t Hold Us – Macklemore & Ryan Lewis
Demons – Imagine Dragons
Get Lucky – Daft Punk
Hopeless Wanderer – Mumford and Sons

(best video I have seen in a while, just kills me)

I Love You – Said The Whale
If So – Atlas Genius
Infinitesimal – Mother Mother
Out of my League – Fitz and the Tantrums
Pompeii – Bastille
Safe and Sound – Capital Cities
Stubborn Love – The Lumineers
Tiptoe – Imagine Dragons
Trojans – Atlas Genius
Wake Me Up – Avicii

Again, I am always on the hunt for new music so feel free to leave me suggestions! Any push-up advice is welcome also.

Cold Weather Running

Welp, these days are pretty much over…

I don’t think I’ll be running outside in tanks again until the spring!

Yesterday after work I headed outside for a 5k run, and it was pretty darn chilly. The temperature was about 6 degrees C, and though I was comfortable with a light jacket, I know that pesky colder weather is on its way. This morning while I was driving to work I noticed the temperature was hovering around 0. Eep.

I am not sure how much longer I’ll continue to run outside. It kills me to say this, but it may be treadmill time.

Running in the snow? That seems a little too hardcore for me… I am really in awe of winter runners.

Is anyone reading a winter runner? And do you have any tips for newbie winter runners? Like how to not hate it and also avoid frostbite?

It’s starting to get darker earlier also, which is always a bummer. I don’t mind running in my neighbourhood in the dark, but I do mind getting out of my comfy warm bed at 5:30 am and forcing myself out into the cold. It’s hard to remember how good you will feel after your run when you know you are about to freeze your loins (and nungas) off.

Last year I ran outside until about mid-November, and then I started hitting up this beast.

Silly treadmill.

Yesterday I did actually really enjoy running in the cooler weather though. I didn’t get too hot and I found it a lot easier to breathe, except my nose was so runny! I constantly had to wipe it with my sleeve. So gross. I’m sure I looked attractive while doing this.

I also made myself a new playlist, which kept me pretty pumped up. And just FYI, to keep me excited about running, I will try not to listen to any of the songs on my running playlist unless I am actually running. This helps me to look forward to my run, because I am excited to jam out to my playlist. Not a bad idea, oui?

I’ll add this to my Playlists page as well, but here it is if you are interested (if you click on the song title it will take you tot he song’s YouTube vid):

Cheers (Drink To That) – Rihanna
Color On The Walls (Don’t Stop) – Foster The People
Days Are Forgotten – Kasabian
I Like How It Feels – Enrique Iglesias ft. Pitbull
I Wanna Go – Britney Spears
Moves Like Jagger – Maroon 5 ft. Christina Aguilera
Reaction – Acres Of Lions (still loving this song)
Sexy And I Know It – LMFAO (Ohhh this video!!!! Kills me every time!)
Stereo Hearts – Gym Class Heroes ft. Adam Levine (highlight ;))
You Make Me Feel… – Cobra Starship

Food Stuff

So I’ve been really slacking at posting food stuff this week, but to be honest I’ve been really busy with work and I’ve been eating boring and repeat foods and I don’t really know what to say about them.

For example, for breakfast every day this week I have eaten either oatmeal with peanut butter and banana, or a whole wheat bagel with peanut butter and banana. Healthy and yummy, yes and yes, but boring and repetitive? Yes…

I love talking about food when the dish I have made is the meat of my blog post, but I don’t really like throwing it in as an afterthought, like “oh and by the way, here is what I ate today, since I have kind of identified myself as a food blogger and feel obligated to post this.”

That leaves me with a funny taste in my mouth, and I feel like it’s obvious when I do that. It also makes me less excited about blogging (obligation will do that to ya).

I like to give food the attention it deserves, but I also want to talk about the things that I want to talk about, ya know?

Sorry to be all ranty-pants, and I don’t know if anything will be changing around here. Just something I have been thinking about..

Anyway, cheers to the freakin’ weekend! I hope you are all dressing up and gallivanting around your cities! I’m pretty excited for Halloween festivities ;).

Enjoy your Friday!
