Weekday Update

Hi!

I am a blog slacker (a blacker?). I seem to be getting out of the blogging habit! I’ve been a busy beaver this week and blogging seems to be the first extra curricular activity to fall by the wayside. Also, since I am no longer talking about my daily workouts and eats, posting every day doesn’t seem as important.

But I miss it! I want to get back into the swing of things, and there are some things that are new around here. Time for an update!

First of all, regular season play of Office Boccia is now complete, and we are moving on to the playoffs!

If you’ve been following my blog for a while, you may already know that we play right in our offices at lunchtime against the other Provincial Sport Organizations in my building, and usually have one game a week.

(pic from last season’s Office Boccia)

We had a make-up game this week so we actually had two games.

We lost this game. But it was pretty close!

For the second game, we branched out and played in the hallway outside of our office.

As Team Captain, I made the decision to bench my boss for this game because he wasn’t playing up to par (I’m just kidding ;) ), so he was the official measurer of the balls (he is circled wayyyyy down at the end of the hallway). The jack ball was thrown all the way from where I am standing taking this picture, to where my boss is measuring. It was quite a distance. And quite dangerous for people from other offices trying to get to the bathroom with balls flying everywhere.

Sadly, we lost this game too.

Out of 20 games, I think we only won 3, and I’m pretty sure we are in last place in our pool.

But not to worry, everyone makes the playoffs, so we have a chance for a huge comeback! I like to joke that we’ve just been hustling everyone this whole time and we are going to come back and own the playoff round. I want that trophy.

Just a basketball trophy painted to look like boccia balls. Still, you get your name engraved on it and it lives in your office until the next season of Office Boccia. Kind of exciting.

Besides boccia, this week has been filled with lunch dates.

My coworker Lexy (who is on maternity leave) dropped by yesterday with her baby Hudson for a little lunch date with my coworker Beth and I.

Hudson is just getting cuter. I have crazy love bursts for that little guy. He is awesome.

We had to get our token picture in front of our office Christmas tree, as Lexy and I have one of us from every year.

And this is the one of us from two years ago…

Aww, we have grown up :) .

Today I had a working lunch date with my communications group, which consists of other employees in my building who are also in the communications marketing role.

We usually meet once a month or so, and today we decided to include a festive lunch to celebrate the holidays.

You may recognize Laura on the far right from my post about the cookie club in our building. She made her amazing double chocolate cranberry cookies AGAIN.

I ate about six of them, and that is no exaggeration. I couldn’t stop. Story of my life with cookies…

And that was after this:

Swiss Chalet festive special! I get this once a year and it includes chicken, stuffing, mashed potatoes (or you can get salad or fries, but I like to go all out), and a dinner roll. Quite a lot for lunch, but I rolled with it.

So that’s what’s been going on with me…a lot of lunch dates, and a lot of boccia ball (and some work and also workouts thrown in).

And Ando and I put our Christmas tree up on the weekend.

I feel like we were the last people in the world to do this. But it’s finally up, and I am feeling festive!

So now you are all caught up. I hope you guys have all been having a great week!

Chatterpaul’s Birthday Celebration

Good morning!

I never got around to posting yesterday, as I was a busy beaver at work all day and had a date with my high school friends in the evening. And then my internet was being a big jerk when I finally did sit down to write about my adventures in eating last night, so I aborted that mission.

But here I am! And it is recap time.

We had a small meeting yesterday in our office, which I wasn’t in, but instead of ordering lunch, the meeting gang headed downstairs to Druxy’s and you better believe I tagged along.

I mixed up my usual salad order and decided to go for a sandwich. I rave on about Druxy’s salads all the time, so it should be noted that their sandwiches are equally as impressive. I opted for a chicken sandwich on a kaiser with lettuce, tomato, cucumber, green pepper, red onion, swiss cheese, mustard, and a bit of mayo. I also scored a pickle and a small cup of potato salad (which comes free with the sandwich) on the side.

All very yummy. That sandwich was dang good, and reminded me that there is more to Druxy’s (and to life) than just salads.

After lunch, we enjoyed some surprise afternoon cuteness in the form of my office BFF Lexy who dropped by with her baby Hudson.

Hudson is getting so big and is SO. CUTE.

Look at that little muffin. I want to squeeze him for hours.

Lexy is pretty cute too. I love how often she drops by our office. I really miss having her around and it is always great to see her. And of course we all love seeing her baby.

This picture of our boss with that cheeky little cat pretty much killed me.

So cute. They are already buddies.

After work I had a date with my high school homies to look forward to, celebrating my friend Lisa’s 28th birthday!

Joanna and I with the beautiful birthday girl (in the middle). Actually it is her birthday TODAY! Happy Birthday Lis! :D

We talked about how we are all (sadly) nearing 30, and who is the first person in our group of friends to turn 29. And it’s me. Not for a few more months, but still! It is approaching!

We hit up a restaurant in Whitby called Chatterpauls, which I have never been to before, but I keep hearing great things about. It is a little bit on the expensive side (about $20-$50 per entrée), but I keep hearing that the food is to die for, so I was anxious to try it out.

While we waited for our entrées, our server brought us each a little appetizer to try.

That would be grilled zucchini topped with a bruschetta mix. I am not a big zucchini eater, but let me tell you that will be changing right now. That was the best little piece of zucchini I have ever eaten, and I don’t think it would be tricky to recreate this little appetizer at all. Though mine would probably not be as tasty…

It also happened to be $4.99 martini night, so in a change from my usual beer or wine order, I opted for a Euphoric Sunset martini.

I don’t even remember what was in that (besides coconut and peach schnapps)…but I do remember that it was GOOD!

For my entrée I chose the Chattercake and Greens, which was a crab cake consisting of lump crab cake, vegetables and spices, served atop a mix of fennel, pineapple, tomatoes, pepitas and flax seeds with a pineapple mango chutney.

That crab cake was ridiculous. So, so good. I can’t rave on too much about the rest of the dish, because it really was just a salad (though a good one) and I found myself wishing I ordered pasta or something more substantial than just greens.

Like this dish for example:

White roughy served on top of pasta, which is what the birthday girl and a few others ordered. I had a bite of Lisa’s and it was delicious! I regretted my entrée decision slightly (hate when that happens)…but, that’s what I get for ordering a salad.

After our meals we had birthday cake to look forward to!

Isn’t the cake (and the birthday girl) gorgeous?

One of the prettiest cakes I have ever seen. It just looked like a big ball of deliousness.

And it definitely delivered in the delicious department.

That’s chocolate with whipped cream AND buttercream icing! I was in heaven.

It was a fun evening out with my gals.

We have all been getting together more often lately, and I am loving it.

Gotta go yo, it is work time! I hope you all have a great almost Friday! Hooray for short weeks :) .

Fear Street and Goosebumps

Hello friends!

I had my third boot camp class tonight!  Tonight’s class was actually pretty killer, and I thought I may die several times.  It was such a good workout, and definitely one I would never complete on my own.  The instructor was hardcore.  I will be sad when my TeamBuy coupon is all used up, because the class on its own is pretty expensive, and with a gym membership as well, it’s not really in my workout budget.  Ho hum.

Oh and I made sure I was stocked up on hair elastics so I didn’t have a repeat situation of my first time

Triple Threat

Here’s hoping to no kinky necks!

In Other News…

Looky looky who I found!

R.L. freakin’ Stine.  On Twitter.

Anybody remember this guy?  Let me help you out.

And also…

I definitely grew up in the thick of the R.L. Stine phase and was a HUGE fan.  I was a bit too old for Goosebumps when they started coming out, so I didn’t really get very into them, but you can bet I read every Fear Street book!  On the books front, R.L. Stine was a major player for me once I graduated from reading Babysitter’s Club (that is a story for another post) and before I moved on to Christopher Pike books.

Fear Street will always hold a special place in my heart.  I still have all the books, on a shelf in our extra bedroom.

Teenage Suspense-fest

My brother Eric was actually reading some of them recently while he was visiting.  I was excited to introduce a new generation to the greatness of the Stine :)

I love that R.L. Stine is now accessible, because I had a burning question for him that has been bothering my Bestie Lisa and I for years.

Catsuits!  The females in his books were always wearing catsuits!  Who wears a catsuit?!  Weird…

I guess in R.L. Stine’s defense, he doesn’t exactly look like the type of guy who would be very knowledgeable on tween fashion.

(source)

Just sayin…

Besides the catsuit references, I especially loved the way every chapter would end with a HUGE climax, and then it would turn out to be pretty anticlimactic.

One of my faves…

“She picked up the phone and it EXPLODED in her hand!”

CHAPTER ENDS.

“It took her a moment to realize the phone was just ringing.”

Shmanyway, I was excited to find R.L Stine on Twitter…and that is kind of an understatement.  I immediately had to tell my Bestie Lisa.

And oh, she remembered the catsuits.

Word.  I totally wanted to be those girls with the catsuits and the chokers and the hair scrunchies.  Epitome of cool.

Onto Eats

I  managed to stay on the healthy bandwagon today, except for lunch.

My Office bestie came in with her little baby Hudson, so another coworker and I hit up the cafeteria across the street with her and her babes for some lunch action.

Lunch Action

I was planning on just getting the salad bar…but then the pasta started calling my name, and I caved.  It was alright.  Not as creamy as I expected, but that was a good thing!  And though Caesar salad is my least fave kind of salad, it was pretty good.  And the company was fab also.

Baby Action...or Non Action

He’s getting so big already!  So cute.

The rest of my meals today were pretty decent health-fests…

Waffle Party!

Toasted whole wheat waffles topped with peanut butter and banana, and a little bit of “pure” maple syrup for breakfast.

And for dinner…

Naanny

Naan bread pizza!  Ando wasn’t feeling the naan pizza, so this was a solo meal pour moi.  I topped my naan with Prego pasta sauce, fresh spinach, mozzarella cheese and sliced green pepper and baked it for about 10 minutes at 400 degrees.

Delish.  And any green pepper that did not make it onto the pizza quickly made its way into my belly before the pizza was even out of the oven.  I just couldn’t wait to eat.

Time to wind down before bed.  Catcha lata!

Questions of the evening

  • Were you a Goosebumps gal, or did you have a Fear Street Fetish?
  • What is your favourite R.L. Stine book?
I really liked the Fear Street Trilogy – First Horror/Second Horror/Third Horror, and Goodnight Kiss because it was about vampires.  And the lifeguard one.  So many.
  • What is your favourite book from when you were a kid/tween?
Mine was Remember Me by Christopher Pike. LOVED that book. I have read it at least a billion times.
