Last Day of Boot Camp (+ Healthy Milkshakes)

Hey-lo!

So tonight was my final outdoor boot camp class (in the dark!). My Teambuy coupon was for 10 classes, and they had to be used in August and September. I actually only ended up going to six classes, due to slacking in August, and not wanting to go 3-4 times a week in September, but since the 10 classes only set me back 10 dolla it’s no biggie.

Seriously killer workout though. I am going to see if there is any sort of boot camp/cross fit class offered at my gym that I would not have to pay extra for. I am member of Goodlife Fitness, which means I can go to any Goodlife in my area. Normally I just go to the Women’s Only Goodlife above the Superstore that is closest to me, but they don’t typically have a very large variety of classes like some of the bigger co-ed Goodlifes do (no spinning, for example).

I also want to get back into going to BodyPump at LEAST once a week. I am thinking if I go to one that is a bit closer to my work, I may actually be able to take a 6am class. We will see how that goes…

I slacked a lot in the workout department for most of the summer, and I want to get back into it. I think boot camp may have revitalized my workout mojo though. I am feeling motivated!

Also, I wore my BIC Band tonight with regular slippery, shiny hair and for the most part it stayed in place! A couple little slippages, but I could just pull it back in place. BIC Band once again FTW!

Onto Eats

Lunch for the past two days has been leftover Crock Pot Santa Fe Chicken, so nothing too exciting.

Repeat Lunch

I’ve been feeling pretty lazy on the whole making lunch thing the last few days. Usually I make my lunch the night before so I’m not scrambling around in the morning, or at least plan out what I’m packing. Having leftovers handy made this a breeze. A healthy lunch in seconds. Sign me up.

For dinner tonight I recreated the pork and broccoli stir fry I made earlier this month, because it’s quick and pretty dang yummy.

The only change I made was cooking brown rice to go with it instead of noodles, and then I threw the rice into the wok with the pork and broccoli once it was cooked. I preferred it with noodles, but the brown rice was probably healthier…

After boot camp I reallllly was craving a milkshake. I was tempted to stop at McDonalds or Dairy Queen and grab one, but I resisted the urge.

After my shower, the craving still wouldn’t go away… I have seen other bloggers make milkshake variations (Dawn @ Blonde On A Mission, for one), so I decided to make a healthier milkshake myself. It was amazing!

Crappy pic due to natural lighting around herrre, but meh.

Into my blender went:

  • 2 frozen bananas
  • 1/4 cup PC honey Greek yogurt (I didn’t measure, it was a few heaping spoonfuls)
  • 3 ice cubes
  • 1.5 cups almond milk (you could use any milk)
  • 1 capful of vanilla extract (maybe a teaspoon)
  • pinch xanthan gum (optional, to thicken)

Sorry, that’s a crappy recipe. A lot of guessing going on. But it was good! Almost as good as the real deal, and a lot better for you! It made enough for both Ando and I.

Shmanyway, I gotta go. It’s bed time and I am so ready.

Have a great night, and HOORAY for Friday tomorrow!

Fear Street and Goosebumps

Hello friends!

I had my third boot camp class tonight!  Tonight’s class was actually pretty killer, and I thought I may die several times.  It was such a good workout, and definitely one I would never complete on my own.  The instructor was hardcore.  I will be sad when my TeamBuy coupon is all used up, because the class on its own is pretty expensive, and with a gym membership as well, it’s not really in my workout budget.  Ho hum.

Oh and I made sure I was stocked up on hair elastics so I didn’t have a repeat situation of my first time

Triple Threat

Here’s hoping to no kinky necks!

In Other News…

Looky looky who I found!

R.L. freakin’ Stine.  On Twitter.

Anybody remember this guy?  Let me help you out.

And also…

I definitely grew up in the thick of the R.L. Stine phase and was a HUGE fan.  I was a bit too old for Goosebumps when they started coming out, so I didn’t really get very into them, but you can bet I read every Fear Street book!  On the books front, R.L. Stine was a major player for me once I graduated from reading Babysitter’s Club (that is a story for another post) and before I moved on to Christopher Pike books.

Fear Street will always hold a special place in my heart.  I still have all the books, on a shelf in our extra bedroom.

Teenage Suspense-fest

My brother Eric was actually reading some of them recently while he was visiting.  I was excited to introduce a new generation to the greatness of the Stine :)

I love that R.L. Stine is now accessible, because I had a burning question for him that has been bothering my Bestie Lisa and I for years.

Catsuits!  The females in his books were always wearing catsuits!  Who wears a catsuit?!  Weird…

I guess in R.L. Stine’s defense, he doesn’t exactly look like the type of guy who would be very knowledgeable on tween fashion.

Just sayin…

Besides the catsuit references, I especially loved the way every chapter would end with a HUGE climax, and then it would turn out to be pretty anticlimactic.

One of my faves…

“She picked up the phone and it EXPLODED in her hand!”

CHAPTER ENDS.

“It took her a moment to realize the phone was just ringing.”

Shmanyway, I was excited to find R.L Stine on Twitter…and that is kind of an understatement.  I immediately had to tell my Bestie Lisa.

And oh, she remembered the catsuits.

Word.  I totally wanted to be those girls with the catsuits and the chokers and the hair scrunchies.  Epitome of cool.

Onto Eats

I  managed to stay on the healthy bandwagon today, except for lunch.

My Office bestie came in with her little baby Hudson, so another coworker and I hit up the cafeteria across the street with her and her babes for some lunch action.

Lunch Action

I was planning on just getting the salad bar…but then the pasta started calling my name, and I caved.  It was alright.  Not as creamy as I expected, but that was a good thing!  And though Caesar salad is my least fave kind of salad, it was pretty good.  And the company was fab also.

Baby Action...or Non Action

He’s getting so big already!  So cute.

The rest of my meals today were pretty decent health-fests…

Waffle Party!

Toasted whole wheat waffles topped with peanut butter and banana, and a little bit of “pure” maple syrup for breakfast.

And for dinner…

Naanny

Naan bread pizza!  Ando wasn’t feeling the naan pizza, so this was a solo meal pour moi.  I topped my naan with Prego pasta sauce, fresh spinach, mozzarella cheese and sliced green pepper and baked it for about 10 minutes at 400 degrees.

Delish.  And any green pepper that did not make it onto the pizza quickly made its way into my belly before the pizza was even out of the oven.  I just couldn’t wait to eat.

Time to wind down before bed.  Catcha lata!

Questions of the evening

  • Were you a Goosebumps gal, or did you have a Fear Street Fetish?
  • What is your favourite R.L. Stine book?
I really liked the Fear Street Trilogy – First Horror/Second Horror/Third Horror, and Goodnight Kiss because it was about vampires.  And the lifeguard one.  So many.
  • What is your favourite book from when you were a kid/tween?
Mine was Remember Me by Christopher Pike. LOVED that book. I have read it at least a billion times.

CHAPTER ENDS.

A Little Boot Camp Recap (Sans Hair Tie)

Heyo friends!

Before I get into my adventures on this fine Wednesday eve, I just want to say I noticed a HUGE typo on the title of my last post.  Monstosities?  What is that?  No one commented about it so I don’t know if you guys noticed, but it should have read Monstrosities.  Like a monstrosity.  You know.  With an “r”.

That really bothered me when I noticed it (not until this evening), as I am quite anal about spelling and I will delete my own Facebook posts and re-send emails if I notice a mistake.  Did anyone notice?

Actually, while I am on pet peeves, ya know what else really bothers me?

What The Eff?

What, exactly, is that supposed to say?  I get that Facebook needs to make sure that I’m not a robot, but c’mon.  I do not have compound eyes.  How am I supposed to read that?  Silliness.

Shmanyway.

In Other News…

Today was an exciting day for me on the workout front.  I had a hot date for an outdoor boot camp class that I signed up for through TeamBuy.  I have 10 classes to use up (has to be in September), and tonight was class numero uno!

I wouldn’t say the class was killer, and it didn’t quite slay me in the way I expected, but I am definitely going to be beautifully sore tomorrow (I love being sore after a workout – it means something went down!)

Signing up for this boot camp was definitely out of my workout comfort zone.  I signed up by myself, barely knew where the place was, and I didn’t know anyone there.   I also usually stick to either running, BodyPump, yoga or spinning, and I haven’t really branched out to a lot of other classes or types of exercise.

I haven’t taken a boot camp class for at least two years, possibly three, and I don’t remember enjoying it.  However, I have a new found appreciation for exercise these days, so I found this class much more enjoyable than I think I would have back then.

It was basically a ton of cardio, a ton of plyometrics, and a ton of core work.  This was A-okay with me, as my core is definitely something I tend to neglect…I may have to work that into an October goal.

One casualty?  My hair elastic broke .2 seconds into the warmup.  If you read my first survey I did on my blog, you know I love my hair ties.  If I do not have a hair tie around my wrist, all I am basically thinking about is where am I going to get my next hair tie?!  Hair ties are IMPORTANT.

Doubled Up

I did not double up for safety tonight.  When my hair tie broke, I had no backup.  I do not like my hair down when I’m working out, because it’s in my face the entire time and I have continuously throw my head around like a stripper to keep it behind me.  If you have long hair, I’m sure you feel my pain.

I managed, but I felt like Blake Lively in The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, running on the beach (and playing soccer, wtf?!) letting my long hair run free and wild in the wind.

I don’t know about you guys, but I’m pretty sure exercise = hair UP.  Am I alone in thinking this?

It actually wasn’t as annoying as I thought it would be, but my hair definitely didn’t stay all silky and smooth like Blake’s luscious locks did.  It went pretty stringy and greasy.

Schweaty & Greasyyyyy

But lesson learned.  I will be doubling up on the hair elastics from now on!

Eats

I am getting quite lengthy here, so let’s just talk about dinner!

Chicken Dinna

This morning before I left for work I added boneless, skinless chicken breast to my crockpot, covered it with low-sodium chicken broth and let it cook on low alllll day long.  I knew I wouldn’t have a lot of time tonight to make dinner, and with the help of my lovely crockpot, this dinner came together in no time!  When I arrived home, all I did was take the chicken out, shred it, cover it with barbecue sauce and serve it on a whole wheat sandwich thin.  Easy peasy!

Pulled Chicken

I also boiled corn on the cob and threw it on the side for a little veggie action.

And now, it is bed time.  I hope you all have a great evening!

A few questions pour vous:

  • When you work out do you wear your hair up or down?
  • Have you ever tried a boot camp class?  How did you like it?
