Fit For Life (and a RUNNING DATE!)

Heyo friends! Happy WEEKEND!

I am really excited for this weekend. Mainly for this going down tomorrow:

The Running Date! According to the FAQs section of the website, this is what The Running Date is all about:

“The Running Date is a fun date inspired by “The Amazing Race”. Teams of two will participate in an adventure of mental and physical challenges while running against other teams within Toronto downtown core. You will solve puzzles to discover challenge locations, work as a team to perform fun activities and race to the finish to win great prizes!”

It sounds like the best thing ever, in my opinion. Inspired by The Amazing Race? I love The Amazing Race! Sign me up!

I won a couples’ entry into The Running Date though Sam’s giveaway at Health, Happiness and Skinny Jeans last week, and I have been gearing up for it ever since.

The race is apparently designed for couples (read: lovers), but Ando sadly can’t make it. I am not missing this because he is busy, so I have roped the next best thing, my good friend Lisa, into partaking with me.

Lisa and I

She can be my lovah for the day :).

I’ll admit I was a little apprehensive when I saw this question in the FAQs…

I am very comfortable with Lisa, but I’m hoping we don’t have to do anything too romantic.

Anyway, you can bet your loins I’ll have a sweet recap of the shenanigans. To say I am excited would probably be an understatement. I am tingling in anticipation. And a little bit of nervousness. Wish us luck! We are taking this thing down!

Fit For Life

Today at lunch, I hit up the mall that is about a six minute drive from my work (very convenient), and I didn’t pack a lunch today so I decided to drop by the food court and see what caught my eye.

I immediately spotted Fit For Life, which is a local fast food chain that features “quick, fresh, and healthy soups, salads and sandwiches” (taken from their website).

I had a salad from there before that was pretty tasty so I thought I’d hit it up.

I ordered a chicken burrito, and brought it back to my office to dig in.

It was a decent size, and jam-packed with goodness. No complaints about the burrito, it was pretty amazing (and messy to eat).

But being the curious cat that I am, I started to wonder about the nutrition facts of the burrito. Not just the calorie and fat count, but the sugar, fiber, sodium, and protein content as well. The burrito was quick and fresh for sure (they made it in front of me), but what made the burrito “healthy”?

So I checked out their website, had a look around, and noticed that they do not have the nutrition facts of any of their foods posted. This is not something that would normally irk me, but because the name of their franchise is “Fit For Life” I thought it was weird that they didn’t have this info readily available. I think if you email them they’ll give it to you, which I don’t care enough to do…but anyway, no big D, I’m not hating on Fit For Life…but I thought it was interesting.

Personally I feel like if you claim something to be healthy, you should have the stats to back it up.

What do you guys think? How important are nutritional stats to you?
I check the nutritional content of everything I buy. I like to check out the calories, fat (trans + sat), sugar, sodium, carbs, fiber, protein, as well as the ingredients. I definitely like to know what I’m eating.

Anyway, it’s late! Bed time for me, I have a hot running date in the am!

  1. First of all, I’m cracking up at the fact that you are doing the Running Date thing with your friend. The fact that it’s called a “date” makes me think that it will be VERY interesting for the two of you HAHA! I can’t wait to hear more about it 😀

Secondly, yeah– I agree with you about it being strange that a company called “Fit For Life” wouldn’t have calories or nutritional stats readily available… Hmmph.

  2. Nutritional content, especially all that sodium, is important for one of those places! But, more importantly, RUNNING DATE! Sounds like so much fun! I hope you have a blast.

  3. I LOVE that you’re doing the running date thing with a friend…I hope you have fun!! And I don’t always check the nutritional facts for foods, but I definitely think that a restaurant, food place like that should have them available!

  4. Nutritional stats are very important to me!! Just because something has spinach in it, doesn’t mean that it is healthy! I love knowing my nutrition facts and understanding the nutrients my body is going to consume! I use the app. “Lose it!” on my phone and I love, love, love it!

  5. Hope you guys have fun on your “date”! 🙂
I’ve always wanted to do one of those races, so I’m looking forward to your recap!

  9. Yeah, I’m a big stats checker, and I agree with you, with a name like that, they should be willing to share! Can’t wait to hear your Running Date recap – sounds like fun!

  10. The Running date sounds fun. Can’t wait to hear about it.
I always check the nutritional facts. That is definitely strange that they don’t have them easily accessible. Seems schetchy to me.
