Before I get into today’s eating adventures, I want to send a quick little shout-out to my beautiful little Nana, who is turning 97 today!
97! That is a big deal, Lucille.
In my tribute to my food-lovin’ Nana, I mention how positive she is, and that I truly believe this is how she has lived for so long and is still doing so amazingly. I think she is the prime example of how your attitude about life directly impacts the quality of your life.
Sure, like everyone, she worries about things, particularly her family. She went through a little phase of worrying about my brother Eric when he was in his second year of high school, about how he might join a gang and start smoking (he didn’t do either). And she worries sometimes that my purse might get stolen (you must always be aware of “purse snatchers”, they can get you when you least expect it
). But she loves her family, loves her friends, and is deep down just a genuinely happy and good person.
My Nana enjoys every moment, takes each day at a time, and is a huge advocate of noticing and appreciating the little things in life. It is rare to see her without a smile on her face, and I know whenever I talk to her she will have something encouraging and uplifting to say.
She is an amazing woman, a true inspiration, and I am proud to call her my Nana!
Now back to your regularly scheduled blogging.
I woke up pretty early this morning, so I decided to hit up my gym’s 8:30 Body Pump class. I have never gone to the ‘Pump on a Sunday morning before, and there were only about eight of us in the class. It was nice to not be squatting into the person’s lap behind me. Much more enjoyable.
The biceps track felt particularly challenging today (I find all Christina Aguilera bicep tracks to be killer!), and my muscles were definitely screaming by the time it was over. Yowza.
And I was pumped about the chest track as soon as I heard the intro to Sweet Child Of Mine, because it always reminds me of this amazing clip from Stepbrothers:
Makes me laugh every single time. “Bow bow, I’m De-eh-eh-errrrrrek, and I can sing hiiigh like thisssss.” Kills me.
Before I left for BP I made myself a quick yogurt bowl for breakfast.
A mix of Liberté vanilla Greek yogurt and Activia raspberry yogurt, topped with blueberries and Enjoy Life granola. Not too heavy, but definitely helped me get through a challenging workout without my hunger monster making an appearance.
After running a bunch of errands, grocery shopping (sweaty and still in my gym clothes, gross), and doing a bunch of un-fun house chores, it was time for lunch!
I never buy these kind of beans, however we had them on the side for breakfast while we were at our friend Cameron’s cottage a few weeks ago, and I haven’t been able to stop thinking about them. They were definitely calling to me in the grocery store this morning, so I decided to go for it. They are pretty delicious! They went perfectly with whole wheat toast.
My brother Eric will be here from BC in a few hours so I better go get ready for his arrival! Have a great Sunday!

Happy birthday to your Nana! 97!! Awesome!!!
Happy Birhtday to a rockin’ nana! Sounds like she’s a great inspriation for you
Step Brothers is one of my all time favorite movies…I swear I laugh more and more each time I watch it!
Happy Birthday to Nana!
Oh me too… I was thinking about it after I wrote this post so I went out and bought the DVD and we watched it that night
Ok, call my crazy….but I’ve never tried beans like that! Remember in Dennis the Menice when the burglar eats them under the bridge? After seeing that movie / scene, I never wanted to try them! haha…oh childhood.
97! Wow, talk about living a good life! Happy Birthday!
hahaha, YES!!!! I told my boyfriend as we were eating them about how that scene ruined those beans for me!!! I almost wrote that in this post, haha. I’ve finally gotten over it though
Happy Bday to your Nana! I was very close to my Nanny(great grandmother) and I’m still just as close to my Gran. I actually just took her some lunch.
Looks like you had a great weekend!
Aww, I love grandma’s.
aww happy birthday to her. She looks great!!
sweetest post ever! your grandma is adorable
I don’t think I’ve eaten those beans in like 10 years but now you’ve got me craving them!
Happy birthday to your Nana!! What a great reminder to stop and enjoy the little things in life.
I love that scene on Stepbrother. It always cracks me up b/c I pretty much sing like the mom does. Horribly!
I think I’m going to try Body Pump soon. I can’t wait. I keep reading about it, so I’m ready to give it a try.

Beans, beans. The magical fruit!
Love Nanners. My favourite is when she calls you at work. I always know because you repeat yourself 1 million times and yell into the phone. Love it!! Happy belated B-day Nanners!
I can’t believe she is 97. I still think of her as 93. Weird. Oh our lovely grandparents. I have a love burst for them.
